Bhopal is the capital city in the central state of Madhya Pradash. In 1984, the world’s largest industrial disaster occurred when over 30 tons of toxic methyl isocyanate gas leaked from a Union Carbide gas plant in Bhopal. Almost 20,000 people lost their lives and countless others were left with permanent disabilities.
In 2002, when the Guptas conducted their medical missions in Bhopal, they alleviated the pain and suffering of several hundred patients. Dr. Mantu Gupta performed numerous kidney stone operations while simultaneously training local doctors on his advanced techniques. He also left behind suitcases full of disposable endoscopic equipment generously donated by Storz. Dr. Lopa Gupta (pregnant with her 3rd child) performed oculoplastic procedures including entropion repair, ectropion repair, ptosis repair, and tear duct repair. Sarina and Dilan watched their parents bring smiles to many faces.
The Guptas also visited a local school and lectured students there on the importance of education and working hard so that one day, they would also be in the position to help others less privileged.
