In June of 2013, Sarina performed a volunteer mission at a women’s clinic in Arusha, Tanzania, Africa. There, she served almost as a medical intern, checking vital signs, blood pressures, and triaging patients. She even assisted with the delivery of babies in the clinic. She realized that there is a drastic shortage of medications and vaccinations for women and children and that prenatal
care is almost nonexistent. The doctors and nurses there are very dedicated but also very overworked and they whole-heartedly welcomed volunteers like Sarina.

Following her mission to the Arusha Women’s Clinic, Sarina devoted some time at a local orphanage where she played with the beautiful children and gave them lots of love and personal attention.

“Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles!” Never having seen bubbles before, these children’s faces demonstrate different reactions: bewilderment, fear, confusion, all of which are beautifully captured in this award-winning photo taken by Sarina.
